Horehound is commonly used to treat chest colds and other respiratory issues. Its use goes back to Ancient Greece and Rome, when doctors recommended using the herb for tuberculosis, asthma, and coughs. Horehound is also a typical ingredient in homemade cough drops or cough syrups.

To make a tea, pour 8 ounces hot water over 1 tablespoon of dried herb, cover, and steep for at least 5 minutes before straining.
Note: Although horehound is very bitter, be sure not to add too much sweetener when consuming - the bitterness activates reflexes that help to regulate breathing and digestion.
