The multi-named and mis-named Black Nigella seeds also called Black or Onion seed or even by their Hindi name Kalonji are little seeds that are high in antioxidants and have an aroma somewhat like onions and a mild somewhat "peppery" flavor. Once toasted the flavor intensifies.

They are used in various dishes throughout the Middle East and India.
